The Sligo County Final of the 33rd year of the Mental Health Ireland Public Speaking Project for secondary schools took place on Tuesday 3rd December in the Clarion Hotel, Sligo. Participating teams were Summerhill College, Sligo; Sligo Grammar School and St. Mary’s College, Ballisodare. All teams delivered excellent presentations, keeping the audience engaged and giving out some strong key messages in relation to mental health.
The team of adjudicators had a very tough decision to make but eventually decided to send the boys from Summerhill College through to represent Sligo at the North West Regional Final in February. Well done to all teams involved and their teachers and good luck to Summerhill College in the next round! Thanks to Sligo Mental Health Association for sponsoring the event and to the adjudicators, Tom O’Grady, Una Mc Ginley and Catherine Stafford for their time and expertise.
Leitrim school, Lough Allen College in Drumkeeran received a bye into the Regional round of the Project and will meet Summerhill College and a team from the Donegal round which is yet to be decided. Best of luck also to the Lough Allen College team and their teacher Rachel Shannon.
