Sligo/Leitrim Youth Mental Health Initiative

The Youth Mental Health Initiative was established in 2011 to foster the positive mental health and wellbeing of young people aged between 12 and 25 yrs in Sligo, Leitrim and West Cavan.

The initiative involves a partnership between a wide range of agencies working with young people, young people themselves and local community groups. The key aim is to develop more responsive ways of supporting the mental health of young people in our area. Currently extensive research is being undertaken to identify the main issues that need to be addressed. The research, which is being conducted by a team from St Angela’s College, will explore young peoples’ mental health needs; their knowledge of the sources of support for their mental health that currently exist in the region and if they feel there are any gaps in service provision or ways services could be realigned to better meet their needs.
