The new-year is a great time for making changes for you and your family to be healthier and have a happy family life. The Triple P Parenting Programme is available to support you as parents to achieve this.
Starting to make those healthy lifestyle and behaviour changes in the family can be daunting. Life is busy and as parents we try to do our best, but many of us have daily struggles which can make it challenging to take control. Examples include when the children do not do as we ask, fight and tease each other, have bedtime issues or show signs of anxiety. Triple P can offer you support with these challenges. Even if you don’t have these challenges you may be interested in other tips and supports from the programme, such as how best to support your child to set up a homework routine, how best to build their confidence and resilience and help them to develop problem solving skills. Triple P offers that support for free, why not give it a try?
What is the Triple P Positive Parenting Programme?
The Triple P – Positive Parenting Programme is one of the most effective evidence-based parenting programmes in the world, backed up by more than 35 years of on-going research. The programme offers parenting information, tips, skills and proven strategies to help parents respond to the questions and needs that inevitably arise in their families. This helps to prevent problems in the family, school and community and to create family environments that encourage children to realise their potential. It does not tell you as a parent how to raise your children, but gives you the confidence and skills to build good relationships with their child, set boundaries and rules, confidently manage your children’s behaviour and prevent problems developing. It is flexible to the needs of individual families; this sets it apart from many other parenting programmes. You decide what strategy fits your family.
How often do I need to attend?
There are a few options, you can attend a once off large public seminar or attend 5 small group meetings over 7 weeks. There is another option to attend for a once-off small group workshop focused on one specific issue e.g. managing disobedience.
Where are the programmes held?
The Triple P parenting programmes is available in your local communities, usually in the evening time. If needed, a day time programme can be arranged.
Who facilitates the programme?
Triple P courses are facilitated by experienced staff in a relaxed environment. Parents have an opportunity to meet other parents going through similar family situations. Some parents feel they are the only family facing challenges. For other parents, it may be about preventing problems from happening in the first place. Either way, the result is happier family lives, with less stress. Feedback from a parent who attended a Group recently said, “Best programme I’ve attended, I feel I have more control as a parent” Another parent who attended a workshop said the clear calm instruction strategy was very helpful in teaching their children limits.
When is the next programme?
Courses commence as below with once off public seminars on how to raise your child’s resilience. This seminar is particularly useful if your child is anxious, fearful, not handling upset well, not coping well with losing. These seminars will be supported by a Sligo Leitrim Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service Professional
